Secure your account with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA setup instructions)

What is 2FA?

Two-factor Authentication (2FA) provides an additional security layer for your LOBSTR account and allows you to make sure that you are the only person who can access or make transactions on your account.

With 2FA enabled for your account, you will need to provide an extra one-time password when logging in, sending funds and making other transactions in your LOBSTR account.

This extra one-time password is stored in the Google Authenticator or Authy app on your iOS or Android device and is regenerated every 30 seconds.

How to Enable 2FA in your LOBSTR account

We support the Google Authenticator and Authy apps for 2FA protection.

Step 1. Log into LOBSTR website and choose 'Settings' in the side menu. From there, choose the 'Security' tab.

Step 2. Click ‘Enable’ in the 'Two-Factor Authentication' section. ’2FA’ form will be opened.

Step 3. Install the Google Authenticator or Authy app on your device.

Step 4. Open the 2FA app (Google Authenticator or Authy app).

Use the Google Authenticator or Authy app to Enter a setup key manually or Scan a QR Code that is displayed to you on the LOBSTR website where you’re enabling 2FA.

  • 2FA account: Account name defined by you on demand, such as ‘lobstr.co’;
  • 2FA Key: 2FA 16-symbol key which can be found in the ‘Save your 2FA backup key’ form;

Step 5. Save your 2FA backup key

Step 6. Enable 2FA

  • Account password: Login password, which is used to log in on LOBSTR website;
  • 2FA backup key: 2FA 16-symbol key is the ‘backup key’ from Step 5;
  • One-time password: 6-digit number generated by your Authenticator app installed on your mobile phone.

Step 7. 2FA Enabled

If you’ve followed the steps correctly, your LOBSTR account login should now be secured with 2FA.

IMPORTANT: 2FA confirmation is not enabled for sending funds and making other transactions in your LOBSTR account by default.

Step 8. Connect Phone Number (optional)

We also recommend connecting a phone number to your LOBSTR account.

This will simplify the process of restoring access to your account, in case you lose access to your mobile phone or 2FA backup code.

This can be done under the 'Profile' tab in the Settings.

How to Enable 2FA for transactions in your account (for accounts created before September 1, 2020)

Step 1. Activate checkbox

In the 'Two-Factor Authentication' section, check the 'Check 2FA when making transactions' checkbox and click the 'Save' button.

Step 2. Enable 2FA for transactions

In the 'Check 2FA in transactions' form, input your one-time password generated by the Google Authenticator or Authy app and click 'Enable 2FA'.

A one-time password is a 6-digit number generated by your Authenticator app installed on your mobile phone.
